The Effect of Supratarsal Injection of Triamcinolone in Refractory Allergic Keratoconjunctivitis
Song Jong-Suk

Abstract
Purpose: To report case series of refractory allergic conjunctivitis with keratitis and conjunctival cobblestone papillae that were treated with supratarsal injection of triamcinolone.

Methods and Results: 4 eyes of 3 patients with refractory vernal keratoconjunctivitis (VKC) or atopic keratoconjunctivitis (AKC) received supratarsal injection of triamcinolone and were followed up more than 6 months. Symptoms including itching, discharge and conjunctival injection of all eyes improved within 1 week and severe punctate keratitis and the size of cobblestone papillae decreased within 2 weeks after triamcinolone injection. All of two eyes with shield ulcer were cured within 2 weeks after triamcinolone injection. No complication including elevated intraocular pressure, skin necrosis and infection was observed.

Conclusions: Supratarsal injection of triamcinolone is a safe and effective treatment in refractory allergic conjunctivitis with keratitis and conjunctival cobblestone papillae including VKC and AKC.
